Jon Swan and his dear friend William Russo were longtime creative collaborators who worked together on multimedia theater projects, rock musicals, and chamber operas. Their most notable joint work was Aesop's Fables (1972), a family-friendly rock musical featuring mini-operas based on classic animal fables. In 1988, they collaborated on The Shepherds' Christmas, for which Jon Swan wrote the libretto and Russo the score.
